The Rocking Chair
- Sit in a rocking chair with your legs crossed on the seat of the chair. You can also experience this with your feet on the floor.
- Sit tall with "good posture."
- Slowly move your head forward.
- Aim your chin toward your chest.
- Eventually the 10-15lb. weight of your head - moving
You will never doubt gravity's constant influence on your alignment ever again.
It is clear that when your head is not aligned on the top of the spine - it can lead to a lot of physical, mental and emotional stress. The message is that we really are "carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders" - in this misaligned posture.
"Paying attention" to keeping the pelvis, rib cage, chest, and head stacked on top of each other - like building blocks - can alleviate aches, pains and stress levels.
Don't Let Gravity Get You Down
Most of us have weak stomach muscles. The abdominal muscles are the primary supporter of the pelvis, the center and foundation of the spine and legs. The body message coming from abdominals that are not strong, that do not lift the body up against gravity is life is burdensome and stability eludes us because our core is weak.
Try It: Getting In And Out Of Your Car
Most of us lead from our shoulders, head and feet to enter and leave the car. Our hips are left lagging behind. This strains our entire body and leaves our back vulnerable.
- BEFORE you get into or out of the car - tighten your stomach muscles.
- Keeping your abdominal muscles contracted lead from your pelvis to maneuver into and out of the car.
- Don't hold your breath. Exhale during this motion. The exhalation will assist you in contracting your abdominals.
